Should Companies Be Able to Own the DNA of Plants?

No, companies shouldn't be able to own the DNA of plants. If companies are able to own the DNA of plants, it gives them way too much control. We (government/nation) will lose grasp on the food system. That is extremely dangerous because eventually, we will lose the ability to change the problem within the nations food system. On the other hand, the government does allow modified/engineered seed DNA to be patented. It does make sense to allow the modifier to have their product patented. If someone spent a lot of time/money to modify a seed and it is definitely  different. Then they should credited by their work. But it is extremely dangerous to allow any products of nature to be modified to be owned. All in all, companies shouldn't be able/allowed to own the DNA of plants seeds.
